Planning was done, items ordered, everything was setup and we were ready for the first race I ever planned - a 1K and 5K for Sacred Heart School. All proceeds will go to benefit the school. It was a fun process working with my committee and getting things ready for the race. A lot of work, but now that it is over, it was totally worth it. We had just over 160 people participate between the 1K and 5K! I was very happy with the turnout. We had perfect weather for the day which made the beautiful fall colors on the trail that much more enjoyable. Many of the kids running the 1K were doing it for the first time and they had a blast!
I am especially proud of Ethan who finished 3rd overall in the 5K and took over 2 and 1/2 minutes off his best 5K time. He came in at 24:10!! That is faster than my best 5K! He truly rocked the race - and was sore for about 3 days after too! But I was happy to see him push himself and enjoy it at the same time. Avery also did her first 5K with my sister Deb. They ran and walked and came in around 40 mins! So proud of her. Olivia and Izzie ran the 1K and had a blast!
This will definitely be an annual event. We hope to double our numbers next year. Thanks to everyone that helped, supported the event and participated! And thank you to my mom and sister for helping so much with the kids!
